6 ways to make money without getting a job

Posted on | September 16, 2016 | No Comments

Going to school at The University of Georgia is a full-time job in itself. Students’ weeks are filled with studying, club meetings, classes and of course, homework.

Most don’t have time in their busy schedules to get jobs, which poses a problem as living in a college town can get expensive. Clothes, food, gas and weekend activities are just a few of the things constantly slimming wallets — but where is that money supposed to come from?

Here is a list of six things that you can do to make some money without getting an actual job.

Sell your clothes online

Selling clothes is one of the easiest and quickest ways to make money. Many of us are guilty of buying things that we don’t end up wearing, or will wear it once and then it will just be taking up space. So save time and space in your closet, and post it on the Facebook buy and sell page. With 3,000 members and new posts daily, UGA Exchange is a Facebook group where you can post your clothes on social media.

Babysit

If you’re up for hanging out with some kids, babysitting brings in cash fast. Once you get that first babysitting gig, others will start to flow as families share the names of good babysitters. Babysitting a couple nights or days a week could easily bring in $100 or more!

Sell old books

Many of us are guilty of buying books at the beginning of the semester that we never even end up opening. Sell those books on Amazon.com to someone who will actually use them. As for the books that are necessary to succeed in a class, ask around and see who is taking that class next semester when you’re done with them. They might be willing to buy your book rather than other sources because they will get it cheaper.

Start a blog

Writing a blog allows you to make money while sitting at home in your pajamas. If you enjoy writing, then you may already be blogging. However, if you take it a couple steps further, you can make some cash. First, you need to get your blog on social media and spread the word around campus. Once you have an established blog that has regular visitors, it’s possible to make it profitable. If you have any kind of product you want to promote, such as T-shirts or game day buttons, this is an easy platform to advertise and increase purchases. A reputable blog can also bring in money by presenting speaking gigs, freelance work and job offers.

Become a tutor

If you consider yourself an expert in a class or subject, this is an easy way for you to make money. You aren’t actually working; you are just sharing your knowledge. Schedule a couple of hours a week to take the time to meet with people to help them with their classes. This would be a very easy way to make cash, especially during midterms and finals.

Become a notetaker

At the beginning of each semester, professors usually ask for a couple notetakers in a class. Being a notetaker presents you with $80 a semester for each course. All you have to do is show up to class and take quality notes. Notetakers are registered through the disability resource center in the UGA Student Affairs Office.
